Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use Dragonwilds DB, with a keyboard, a screen reader, zoomed in or on a phone. Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not had the site audited by a third party, and we don't claim it fully meets that standard.
What we test
- Automated checks (axe-core, WCAG 2.2 AA rules) on every kind of page at desktop and phone widths.
- Keyboard use: a skip link, visible focus on every control, menus and dialogs that close with Escape and return focus.
- Text and control contrast, 200% and 400% zoom, increased text spacing, and reduced motion.
- Names for every button, link, form field and icon, and announcements when search results or tool results change.
Known limitations
- Interactive map. The map is a picture of the game world and can't be fully described to a screen reader. You can pan and zoom with the keyboard, tab through the markers on screen and open them with Enter, and the search box finds any marker by name. The items, creatures, quests and vaults on the map also have their own pages in the database. Map markers are smaller than 24 pixels and can sit close together; the search box and the database pages are the alternative.
- Your world (save viewer). Loading a save works with the keyboard through the file buttons; dragging a folder onto the map is optional. Markers from your save have the same limits as the map.
- Vault floor plans. The plans are drawings. Each marker can be reached with the keyboard and read aloud, and the chest, enemy and trap lists below each plan carry the same information.
- Game images. Item and creature icons come from the game. Where an icon sits next to its name it is treated as decoration.
