I have been punched, stabbed, and shot with arrows, over the course of my many years of adventuring and each injury feels like a unique moment. Damage, as you might image, comes in all shapes and sizes. Different weapons just hit differently.
Some weapons stab. Some slash away flesh. Others break bones with mighty crushing movements. Ranged attacks pierce you with unreasonably sharp arrows, and magic strikes you down with the primordial elements, air, fire, earth and water.
We humans are vulnerable to each of these in equal measure, but this isn’t true for everything. Some creatures have tougher skin, but bones more susceptible to crushing. Others might burn easily, while the chill of water barely touches them.
It’s important to learn the weaknesses and resistances of your enemies, so that you can make sure you’re dealing the sort of damage that really takes them out.
