How to Make Rune Bars in Dragonwilds: Runite and Luminite Ore
A rune bar is 3 runite ore plus 3 luminite ore at the Blast Furnace, no coal. Where the ores are, the furnace cost and how many bars each rune item takes.
A Rune Bar is 3 Runite Ore and 3 Luminite Ore smelted at the Blast Furnace. There’s no coal in the recipe, and both ores come only from the Scorned Wilderness.
The recipe

The recipe unlocks the first time you pick up Runite Ore. Luminite takes the place coal fills in the other high-tier bars: Steel Bar, Mithril Bar and Adamant Bar are each 3 ore and 3 Coal at the same furnace. The game describes luminite as “a catalysing material that can help to make rare metals”, and rune bars are its only recipe.
Where to find runite and luminite
Both ores ship with the Scorned Wilderness content, the area Regicide sends you into after Icthlarin's Little Helper. The world files place:
- 28 runite deposits
- 137 luminite deposits
None of them are on the overworld map, so the database map can’t show them. With almost five luminite deposits for every runite deposit, runite is the ore you’ll run short of.
Runite Ore weighs 3.6 and a Rune Bar 4.5, against 10.8 for the three ores that go into it, so smelting near where you mine saves carry weight.
Which pickaxe
The data doesn’t list a minimum pickaxe for runite deposits. The Rune Pickaxe costs 5 rune bars, so the first runite has to come off something else. The best pickaxe below it is the Adamant Pickaxe at power level 7, which ships with the Umbral Sands content.
Building the Blast Furnace
If you’ve made mithril or adamant bars, you already have one. The Blast Furnace costs:
- 12 Granite
- 8 Iron Bar
- 4 Draconic Leather
- 10 Fire Rune
- 2 Vault Core
It unlocks when you first pick up coal and must be built in the open. Draconic Leather is 3 hard leather and 1 dragon blood at the Tannery (see how to get hard leather), and Vault Cores come from plinths inside the dragonkin vaults (see how to get vault shards).
What rune bars make
Rune bars go into 28 recipes, and every finished item among them is power level 8. Armour, weapons and tools are made at the Armour Bench, Blacksmith's Bench and Fletching Bench.
The other power level 8 sets take a few too: Black Dragonhide Body 3, coif 1 and chaps 1; Ancestral Robes 2, hat 1 and leggings 2.
A full Rune Helm, Platebody and Platelegs set is 13 bars, which is 39 runite and 39 luminite. The Greataxe and Warhammer cost almost as much on their own.
The other ingredients
Rune bars are rarely the only Scorned Wilderness material in a recipe. Most rune gear also needs Black Dragon Leather and Draconic Vis Wax, and armour adds Vis Cloth and Harmonised Compound. The Rune Platebody, for example, is 6 rune bars, 6 black dragon leather, 2 vis cloth, 2 harmonised compound and 2 draconic vis wax.
