Dragonwilds Law Runes: How to Unlock, Craft and Farm Them

Law runes unlock at Runecrafting 50. One rune essence makes 5 at the Rune Altar. Also covers anima vents (12–15 runes per essence) and which packs drop them.

Rune essence flowing through a stone altar into a stack of law runes

Law runes are the one rune type you can’t make early. Everything else on the Rune Altar opens up in your first few dozen Runecrafting levels. Law waits until 50. Once you get there, though, they’re cheap.

All numbers below come from the game files.

When law runes unlock

The Law Rune recipe is tied to a Runecrafting perk called Law Runes, at level 50. Here’s where it sits against the other altar recipes:

RuneRunecrafting level
Air Rune1
Astral Rune3
Water11
Earth15
Fire25
Nature38
Law50

So it’s the last of the seven. Nature at 38 is the one before it.

Crafting them at the Rune Altar

The recipe is the same shape as every other rune:

That’s it. No second ingredient, no special station. If you can make air runes, you have the setup already. The altar is the build piece from the Rune Mysteries quest, and its Rune Altar page lists the cost.

Siphoning anima vents (the faster way)

The game also has law anima vents. Siphoning a vent eats rune essence and gives runes of that vent’s type, and two Runecrafting perks raise the yield:

  • Lesser Anima Siphoning (level 46): 1 essence gives 12 runes
  • Greater Anima Siphoning (level 71): 1 essence gives 15 runes

That’s two to three times the altar’s 5. If you’re making law runes in bulk, find a law vent. The level 19 perk Summon Elemental Spirits points you at nearby vents, and Greater Elemental Spirits at 64 also shows which ones are concentrated.

Two more perks are worth knowing about. Law Efficiency at 94 raises the yield when auto-crafting law runes. Essential Strength at 53 cuts rune essence weight by half, which matters when you’re hauling it to a vent.

Law runes without the skill

If you’re nowhere near 50, packs are the backup. Pack contents from the data:

PackLaw runesChance
Zogre Pack15 to 3050%
Zombie Pack5 to 1020%
Skeleton Pack5 to 1020%
Garou Pack5 to 1010%
Goblin Pack5 to 1010%

Zogre Packs drop from Zogre and are the clear winner: half the time you get a stack of up to 30. Zombie Packs come from zombies, Skeleton Packs from the skeleton faction, Garou Packs from Garou and Goblin Packs from goblins. The gold reward packs from regional tasks also carry a 10% chance.

What law runes are for

The item text puts it simply: law runes are “needed for teleportation”. On the crafting side, the only recipe in the current data that uses them is Ava's Accumulator at the Armour Bench: 4 padded cloth, 2 oak logs, 1 iron bar and 5 law runes. It raises your arrow recovery chance and picks up recovered arrows for you, which is great if you play Ranged.

Pulpknuckle also asks for five law runes and an iron bar during Animal Magnetism.

And like every rune, law runes stay in your inventory when you die.

What level do you need for law runes in Dragonwilds?

Runecrafting level 50. That's the level of the Law Runes perk, which unlocks the law rune recipe at the Rune Altar.

How many law runes do you get from one rune essence?

Five at the Rune Altar. Siphoning an anima vent gives 12 per essence with the level 46 perk and 15 with the level 71 perk.

Can you get law runes without Runecrafting?

Yes, from packs. Zogre Packs have a 50% chance of 15 to 30 law runes. Zombie and Skeleton Packs have a 20% chance of 5 to 10.

Do you lose law runes when you die?

No. The game's own item text says runes are retained if you die.
